TEKOA BIBLIQUE

The Word Judea (Yehuda) represents the etymological origin for the word Yehudi (Jew).

This is the place where the Jewish people were born. 92% of the events cited in the Holy Bible, happened either in Judea or Samaria.

The name Tekoa comes from the verb  לתקוע: blowing the Shofar(ram’s horn) for preventing the arrival of possible enemies.

In this manner Tekoa protected Jerusalem .

Tekoa is abundant in Biblical events :

Starting with the story of Ruth and Boaz in the fields around Beth Lehem.

David fled from Jerusalem towards Ein Gedi, fleeing Saul, and takes refuge in a cave from the desert. The only cave completely obscure from the region, is the cave of Haritun, the biggest from the Middle East, and is in 10 minutes walk distance from Tekoa, in Wadi (canyon).

The intelligent woman from Tekoa : Joab the son of Cerouya, remarking that the heart of David was favoring Absalon, he searched in Tekoa for an advised woman, to whom he told: Take, I pray thee, the appearance of a mourning woman: take clothes proper for mourning and pain, don’t use any scented oil, after all you must seem like a woman who is mourning a dead man for a while by now. You will present yourself in front of the king and you will tell him all kind of things,” and he put the words in his mouth……(Samuel 2,XIV,1-2)

The prophet from Amos:“The words of Amos, one of the shepherds from Tekoa, who prophesized about the Israel during the reign of Ouzia, king of Juda” (AmosI,1)

“Behold, the days are coming, said the Ethernal, when the working man will meet the harvester, the one who is trading grapes will meet the one who spreads the seeds. The mountains shall drop sweet stum and all the hills shall become liquid.14 I shall bring back the captive people of Israel: they shall restore their destroyed cities and establish here, they shall plant vineyards and drink the vine, they shall plant gardens and eat the fruits.15 I shall plant them in this soil I gave and they shall never be uprooted, said the Ethernal, your God.” (Amos,IX, 13-15)
